Determined to reform Chinese painting, Lui Shou-kwan emphasised that reformation was not a subversion, but a form of self-creation after learning from predecessors and drawing energy from different cultures. These Zen paintings are the culmination of his inner vision expressed through innovative forms that showcase Lui’s life-long exploration of Western modern art, Buddhist and Taoist teachings and traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting.
