This is one of Lui Shou-kwan’s most unique and iconic Zen paintings. The blank background vividly contrasts with the rhythmic layers of broad, black strokes. A red spot sits silently at the top, like a flame or bud, forming the central element of the Zen painting. This work is the culmination of his inner vision expressed in innovative forms that showcases Lui’s life-long exploration of Western modern art, Buddhist and Taoist teachings and traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting.
